Machine Cover Selection and Custom Engineering

Configure a reliable cover around guideway size, travel, speed, mounting direction and operating environment.

Four operating conditions to confirm before selecting a machine cover

A cover should not be ordered by appearance alone. Guideway dimensions, travel, actual speed and contaminants determine the structure, support and sealing method.

Dimensions and travel

Record guideway width and height, extended length, available compressed space and mounting interfaces before choosing the cover structure.

Speed and orientation

Horizontal, vertical and inclined installations carry different loads. High-speed travel also requires acceleration, synchronizing, guidance and buffering checks.

Chips and fluids

Identify metal chips, dust, coolant, oil and hot splash to choose between telescopic steel, bellows, armored or round covers.

Maintenance access

Confirm removal direction, cleaning frequency and nearby interference so seals, plates and mounting flanges remain serviceable.

Choosing the cover structure

StructureSuitable conditionsConfirm before ordering
Steel telescopic coverMachine guideways exposed to metal chips, coolant and impactSpeed range, plate thickness, compression ratio and support
Nylon bellows coverCompact equipment requiring long travel and flexible sealingFabric, compressed length, profile and mounting interface
Armored bellows coverHigh-speed guideways needing flexible motion and chip impact resistanceArmor overlap, synchronized travel, noise and buffering
Round leadscrew coverLeadscrews, cylinders, piston rods and other axial moving partsInside and outside diameters, travel, compression and end connections

Information needed for selection

  • Width, height or diameter of the protected component
  • Maximum extended length and available compressed length
  • Travel speed, acceleration and mounting orientation
  • Chips, coolant, oil, dust and temperature conditions
  • Interface dimensions, nearby interference and equipment photos

Machine cover selection questions

Is the extended length enough for a quotation?

Usually not. Compressed space, guideway dimensions, mounting interfaces, speed and contaminants are also needed to select the structure and material.

Can a standard steel cover run at high speed?

Speed must be classified. A high-speed cover needs matching synchronization, guidance and buffering; a standard pull-type cover should not use high-speed ratings.

Is vertical installation selected the same way as horizontal installation?

No. Gravity changes the load, so the speed range, support, stops and fixing method must be checked again.

Can you make covers for irregular guideways or retrofit projects?

Yes. Send a dimensional drawing, equipment photos and a motion video so the profile, travel, interface and interference points can be reviewed.
